I’ve gotten caught in the social media spiral the last few months where I feel like I have to look perfect, sound perfect, and have the perfect edits.

I’ve been quite literally going through the very thing I’ve been talking about with high achievers and the 4 patterns I see (especially right now in this economy/labor market) - perfecting, performing, people-pleasing, protecting. Perfecting is the one that takes up the most space for me but I’m cycling through all of these too on a daily basis.

I’m sick of overthinking and over analyzing. So this is my official commitment to start showing up as I am, unfiltered thoughts, real talk, with a dash of sass because I’m just as fed up about everything as you are.

I have been having the same conversation with clients and people in my network over and over. People are FED UP with the corporate system. FED UP with the politics. FED UP with the pace of work. FED UP with being told to learn AI when they don’t know what it means for their jobs. FED UP with the goalposts that keep moving.

The system is purposely creating a ton of noise because they know they can - we’re in an employer’s market. They know that they can get away with a lot right now. What that’s doing is creating Career Static - we’re losing the connection with ourselves in the middle of it all. We don’t know who we are outside of the noise anymore, or what we actually want, or how to start changing any of it.

I’ve talked a lot recently about listening for your signal to indicate something is off or doesn’t feel right.

But today - I want to talk about what it looks like to trust your signal when it’s pointing you toward what’s right.

When you get that persistent nudge to start the project, write the piece, or claim your voice (even when it makes zero sense) that is your intuition speaking, asking you to answer the call.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to have TRUST and follow that signal that’s telling you you’re meant for more ✨🤍

A quick reality check before you close your laptop for the weekend - you don’t need to make a massive, dramatic career pivot right now just to prove you’re listening to yourself.

In this dumpster fire of a market, staying put might actually be the smartest, most strategic move on your chessboard. And that is completely FINE.

My point in encouraging you to listen to your signal isn’t to convince you to burn your career down. It’s to make sure you stop abandoning yourself while you’re in it.

Getting crystal clear on your hard NO’s, holding your boundary on a Friday afternoon, or admitting out loud that a role isn’t it - that’s actually progress and you sharpening your internal signal.

Building deep clarity in who you are and what you want matters right now, even if your circumstances stay the same for the time being.

I’ll get off my soapbox now. Take a breath, close the computer tabs, and go enjoy your long weekend 🤍

What happens after you stop ignoring the signal telling you something needs to change?

You stop gaslighting yourself. You admit when a job, a manager, or a situation isn’t serving you anymore. But you’re also at a point where you don’t have a full map of what’s next.

That in-between - after honoring your signal, but before reaching where you want to be - can feel terrifyingly slow, isolating, and messy.

As high achievers, we loathe not having a plan. We want to rush through the transition because sitting in the unknown feels uncomfortable.

But this figuring-it-out phase is what I call the meaningful middle. It’s where you do the necessary inner work of untangling what you actually want from what looks good on paper, testing options, and letting your own intuition make the decisions for once.

You don’t need to have everything mapped out right away. Being in the middle simply means you were brave enough to stop staying somewhere that asked you to compromise who you are and what you really want.

Friendly reminder that you don’t need to wait for a total breakdown or a toxic boss to admit that something feels off at work.

Your intuition usually knows long before a spreadsheet can plainly show you. The problem is that as high achievers, we’re absolute masters at negotiating with ourselves. We move our own deadlines, we use “logic” to talk ourselves out of our feelings, and we ask everyone else for permission so we can avoid making an uncomfortable choice.

Every time you ignore your own signal to keep the status quo or stay comfortable where you are, you trade away a little bit of your own confidence. (Let’s not do that please.)
