Birthdays have a way of making me reflect. They serve as a reminder that growth is a continuous journey, not a destination. So, as I turn 36 today (one year closer to 40 – yikes!), I thought it would be fun to write out 35 things I’ve learned in my 35 years. In jotting these down, I had flashbacks of the chapters of my life – the hardships, the celebrations, the milestones, the simple moments, and all the pages in-between. All of these lessons that my life has taught me – some gently, some with a hard push – have shaped and molded me to who I am today – stronger, wiser, and more confident in who I am.

As I look ahead to what this next chapter titled “36” looks like, I know there will be more challenges and break-throughs to come. But I also have a feeling it’s going to be one of my most transformational yet. Stay tuned – I can’t wait to share more!

1. Focus on what you can control. Let go of the rest.

2. Wish the haters well. Typically, it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.

3. Listen to the whispers. Those inner nudges are your intuition speaking – trust them.

4. Curiosity is the compass. It will steer you in the direction that’s meant for you.

5. Break cycles, patterns, and glass ceilings. You are here to rise above it all.

6. Time with loved ones > anything else. You’ll never regret prioritizing those moments.

7. Each person in your life serves a purpose or teaches you a lesson. Some people will test you, some will use you, some will bring out the best in you, but everyone will teach you something about yourself.

8. Remember that you can’t fix or save others. Prioritize your own healing and live for you, not for them.

9. Travel often. Exploring new places, new cultures, and new people broadens your horizons.

10. Do the things that scare you. You’ll often surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.

11. Never underestimate yourself. You can do hard things.

12. Going to therapy doesn’t make you weak. It means you have an inner strength and awareness that will take you through your challenges and hardships. It takes courage to face yourself.

13. Choose a partner you can count on. It’s one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your lifetime.

14. Make it a point to see your friends, even if it means planning months ahead, those moments matter.

15. Don’t let perfection paralyze you and stop you from starting. Just start!

16. You’re never too old to rewrite your story. New chapters can begin at any time.

17. You are your own worst critic. Show yourself the grace you give to others.

18. Take advantage of the small joys in life. (Ice cream for dinner is always a good idea.)

19. Don’t wish your life away. It’s easy to look ahead, but remember to soak in the present.

20. Never stay in a toxic situation, whether it’s a relationship, friendship, or workplace. You deserve more.

21. Live life on your terms. Don’t let anyone else dictate your path.

22. Rejection is redirection. When one door closes, another opens – you just need to find it.

23. The biggest pivots in life often become the most pivotal. Trust the process.

24. The power of connection is everything. Who you know is far more valuable than what you know.

25. You’ll never regret taking a bet on yourself. You owe it to your potential.

26. There is growth in the discomfort. If you feel like an imposter, it’s a sign you’re expanding your limits.

27. Be your own best advocate. You know yourself best – speak up.

28. Health is wealth. Listen to your body, honor it, and take care of it.

29. The world needs your magic. You’re here for a reason. Figure out what that reason is and pursue it with all your heart.

30. Change is constant. Learn to adapt with it and watch yourself grow.

31. Give yourself time. Don’t rush the process.

32. Nature cures all. A good walk and some fresh air can make all the difference.

33. People who want to be in your life will make the effort to be there. Don’t waste time chasing people who don’t deserve to be chased.

34. You are your longest commitment. Prioritize yourself. It’s not selfish, it’s essential.

35. You have nothing to prove. You are enough.
